FAQ Informatics Pre-course 2024

Note

The pre-course is already fully booked. If you still want to participate please contact [email protected]

IMPORTANT: Unlike previous years, the pre-course will be held in English and is open to all students who haven’t yet decided on their technical specialisation or who want to get an idea of what they can expect in the computer science (Informatik) or computer engineering specialisation.

You are not yet sure which technology specialisation you would like to choose and/or have never heard of classes, objects, methods, integers, floats and strings? Then our Informatics pre-course at the start of the summer semester might be of interest to you!

We would like to give you an idea of what to expect in the Computer Science (“Informatik”) or Computer Engineering specialisation, especially as the module in the second semester (“Information Management for Digital Business Models”) might give you a false impression of Computer Science. The preliminary course will not necessarily prepare you for the programming internship in the third semester (there is an extra offer from the Faculty of Computer Science for this), but it will give you a good insight into programming (98% of last year’s participants confirmed this to us). The primary aim of the preliminary course is to make it easier for you to choose your technical specialisation.

To clarify the most important questions in advance, we have prepared a small FAQ for you:

  • I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTALLATION OF THE DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT (IDE)

    • We will provide installation instructions in Moodle in good time before the start of the pre-course. Please follow these steps exactly.
    • If your problems cannot be solved by the start of the pre-course, a tutor will be happy to help you on Saturday morning. This will not put you at a disadvantage.

Either way, we have received the e-mail with your request. If your problem cannot be answered by one of these FAQs or is of a completely different nature, we will of course get back to you as soon as possible. We reserve the right to temporarily leave all other messages uncommented for the time being, as experience has shown that we receive a lot of messages on the topics mentioned above and can no longer keep up with them ourselves.

Thank you for your understanding.
