Every day 30 people fall ill with leukaemia. A stem cell donation is often the only way for patients to survive. For every fifth patient, no suitable stem cell donor is found, as too few volunteers are listed in the worldwide database. But you can change that: Save lives! Register yourself with a small blood sample: For a leukaemia patient, a small prick for you may be the chance of a cure.

And the best: You can win one of our special prices from TUM Shop, Braufässchen, Swapfiets and Buckle and Seam in the raffle!

How? Just register yourself in the worldwide stem cell database at 27th of November at TUM and you are in the lottery pot! The winners of the raffle will be announced at the end of the day.

Our prizes are:

One of four brew barrels to brew your own beer

One of three bags from Buckle & Sam (Duffle Willow, Backpack Morris, Briefcase Cali)

One of 5 great prizes from the TUM Shop

One of three 3-month packages from Swapfiets

(The prizes for the raffle are provided free of charge by the respective companies. #sponsored)

    3. Small blood collection
  • WHICH REQUIREMENTS DO I HAVE TO MEET?

In principle, any healthy person can register who is in good physical condition and not registered in any stem cell donor database e.g. DKMS.

In order to protect you as a donor and to exclude risks for the recipient as far as possible, there are various requirements for inclusion in a stem cell donor file. You can find out which requirements apply here.

  • DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR A REGISTRATION?

No, the registration is free of charge for you. However, the “Stiftung Aktion Knochenmarkspende” is dependent on financial donations. They will also be happy to provide a donation receipt for your donation. You can donate online or at:

  • WHY IS BLOOD NEEDED FOR THE TYPIFICATION?

When taking a blood sample (as on the typing campaign, at the blood donation appointment or at the family doctor) it is possible to determine not only the tissue characteristics but also the CMV status, which is very important for donor selection. This is not possible when obtaining oral mucosa.

  • DO I HAVE TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME?

In order to register as quickly and accurately as possible, we ask you to bring your health insurance chip card with you to the stem cell registration campaign.

  • WHAT HAPPENS IF MY GENETIC CHARACTERISTICS MATCH THOSE OF A PATIENT?

The process of a stem cell donation takes place in 4 steps

    1. Registration and initial typing
    2. DNA Matching
    3. Donor screening
    4. Stem cell transplantation
