#StayInside

In order to keep everyone safe, especially the high risk groups we should all contribute and stay inside the next couple of weeks. That is not an easy task and might become tough really soon. Here are some things you could do:

  • Do you want to broaden your knowledge? Check out edx.org

edx offers 2.500+ online courses covering all fields from Business & Management to Physics. The courses are offered by Harvard, MIT and of course yours truly TUM.

  • You’re at the beginning of your studies?

When you first start your studies a lot may be still uncertain. Have you already chosen your technical specialization? Planned your project study or your exchange semester?

It is worth looking into these things early on. Did you know that for some exchange destinations you are required to have basic knowledge of the national language? Now’s the time to check out universities that might be interesting for you and perhaps sign up for language classes for the upcoming semester.

  • Out of pasta?

Don’t worry plenty is on its way to the supermarkets. However it’s really easy to make pasta (and pesto) yourself. Give it a go and cook dinner for your roomates or family.

  • When was the last time you read a good book?

During the semester we’re all busy (hopefully) going to lectures, studying, doing extracurricular activities and partying a whole lot. There’s not much time to pick up a book and get into it. Here’s a link to TIME magazine’s 100-must-read-books.

  • This is not a fun one, but it must be done at some point.

Get started on your tax returns.

Did you know? The student council organizes an information event every year to help you make the most out of it.

  • This is a fun one for sure.

Berlin’s clubs and djs have come together at unitedwestream.berlin to save Berlin’s thriving club culture during quarantine. Every evening starting at 7pm different artists perform at one of Berlin’s famous clubs and you can watch live! Party with your family, roomies or invite your friends via facetime. Also, they would be happy if you donate some money or support them by buying something from their SoliShop.

  • Bake some bread

Making your own bread is almost always worth it. Here’s an easy recipe for you.

  • Hang out with your friends virtually.

Especially when you live alone you should not forgo social contact. There are plenty of ways to talk to your friends online. You can watch a movie together (check out NetflixParty) and talk about it via text. Also, dancing together via justdancenow.com can be quite fun.

  • Going for a walk or for a run

Going outside is alright if you are not sick, however try to keep 2 meters away from others.

  • Mental Health

As studies from China show (bmbf.de), quarantining can induce anxiety and sleeping problems. The Bundesgesundheitsministerium recommends structuring your day and keeping routines as well as staying in contact with friends and family

More information in English from the WHO.

If you need to talk to someone here are the numbers of the German Telefonseelsorge:

    Tel. 0800-111 0 111 or 0800-111 0 222 or 116 123

We wish you all the best and hope you all stay safe!
